I teamed up with friend and romance-scam victim Brenda to raise awareness and prevent other women becoming victims of this hugely under-reported crime. My approach was to generate awareness within the national and online media.
I developed a package of material for Brenda and provided her with media training. I gained support from Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and internet crime, to be involved in the publicity work.
I achieved interviews for Brenda on national BBC breakfast news, Radio 4 Today and You & Yours programmes, Radio 5 Live, Daily Mail and numerous regional TV news programmes including BBC London, Meridian and London Tonight. This awareness generated further media interest resulting in Brenda featuring in a number of documentaries. The publicity also resulted in a significant increase in calls to the Action Fraud reporting phone number.
Brenda commented; ‘I had no idea of Sarah’s skill and expertise in the field of communication and Sarah took on the task admirably. She quietly and professionally ‘got on with it’ setting up numerous interviews and media coverage. Prior to the interviews Sarah arranged for me to have media training to avoid the many pitfalls of such publicity.
‘Sarah was totally supportive on a personal level whilst being very professional throughout one of the most difficult periods in my life. I shall always be extremely grateful to her and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending her and her professional services.’
